Hey guys, long time since I posted on this blog. So, what is the Hwa Chong spirit? Did it come alive or not? A brief introduction. A total of 9 classes of sec 1's(including me), went to Chua Chu Kang Stadium on (err) 23rd April (that's a long time ago) to support the track and field finals of the C, B and A division. The stadium was huge, and the other schools had already been there a long time ago. The supporters from Raffles had brought their drums and other cheering materials, whereas we brought nothing. So what? We have the Hwa Chong spirit inside us. All of us, and it can move mountains.
2.30pm. The competition was about to begin. Our seniors who had accompanied us there (mostly councillors) were all very enthusiastic, while most of us were not. Some were not cheering along with the seniors when told to do so. They simply stood there, the bored look on their faces, cheering softly (seriously it was quite soft). What happened to the secondary ones? Why were they not enthusiastic at all? Don't they want their school to win?
Finally, the running events were on. Our A boys and girls were trailing behind the rest, not producing good results. It was not until we cheered hard for them did we understand the true meaning of the Hwa Chong spirit. The secondary ones finally understood the Hwa Chong spirit deep down inside us. It is the spirit of perseverance, the spirit of never giving up, and the spirit of gaining glory for our school. We cheered harder and louder, and more enthusiastically. With each cheer, our seniors put in more and more effort and persevered to the end. Even though the strain on their faces were evident, they pushed on, and pushed themselves to the limit, eventually clinching overall 2nd position.
There you have it. The Hwa Chong spirit did come alive in our hearts, burned brightly, lighted our sprinters' hearts, inspired them to challenge themselves, and to win races for us, for themselves, as well as for the school.
